A cherished yearly custom – undertaken in remembrance of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of all creatures great and small – the Blessing of the Animals ceremony gives all Tatachilla families the opportunity to give thanks for the important role that animals play in our lives.
All animals are welcome to be blessed, including horses, cows, sheep, goats, birds, lizards, cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs.
At Tatachilla we believe that rituals such as the annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony are essential to human life. They help us live out our values, connect to each another, align our hearts and minds and find collective meaning in life.
Introduced to college life in 2013, the Blessing of the Animals custom is just one of the ways that Tatachilla approaches college culture differently, highlighting the commonality between us in a positive, life-affirming way.

Tatachilla Lutheran College is built on Kaurna Country. We acknowledge the Kaurna peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and learn. We respect and support their spiritual relationship with Country and connection to their land, waters and community. Through openness and truth-telling we seek to celebrate the traditions, memories, histories and contributions of all First Nations peoples and work together to establish a shared national identity and uphold the oldest continuing living culture in the world.
